again with the 70%

November 30th, 2006 at 04:14 am

Got the utility bill today from the landlord. Again, the claim is that according to our lease we should be paying 70%. Again, I will take the letter, edit the 70 to 50, edit the totals, print an image of our current lease (which says no change from the original lease), then print an image of our original lease which clearly says 50%. Since I have a .tif images of the two leases, I can and will do it over and over and over again.

What is the landlord smoking?

kashi - thanks for the tip on yaktrax. They look like chains that you can put on your shoes, like you put chains on your tires to keep your car from slipping. I was debating about ordering a pair, but then I thought - its November and I have a bad feeling about this whole winter. So I bought a pair.

Saving log - 2$ tip box + 40$ DRP.
Spending log - 2$ coffee/milk + $114.99 sewer, water, gas + 24.95$ yaktrax + 10$ lunch w/couple of co workers.

Have you gone to the landlord in person with your documentation and told him to stop it? That you will always have the documentation, you aren't going to misplace it, and no matter how many times he tries to get you to pay more you don't have to because its not in your lease, so he should stop wasting your time and his by trying to squeeze you for more. Only nicer.

Hey, could lawyer friend draw up a little document for you asking him to cease and desist, something in a nice lawyery letterhead perhaps? Although that might annoy him more than it is worth.

kashi and I think alike. Since we both posted about the Yaktrax but I didn't see her comment when I posted mine. Smile I've worn mine once. You still should watch your step when walking with them but they seem to work quite well and make cool patterns in the snow. The ones for running/jogging are a little better, but also a little more.

Man! Glad I'm not dealing with a landlord anymore! You're so good to have all that documentation. I would probably be too disorganized and get skint.

I'm glad you got a pair! Did you get the walkers? If you decide to get Pro Yaktrax, or if you want to get some for someone else, check out http://www.The-Perfect-Present.com. Looks a little sketch, I know, but I ordered five pairs of Pro and they all arrived quickly, perfectly packaged, and cheaper than anywhere else.

Funny, I was randomly thinking about you and your housing situation last night (perhaps I felt the vibes from Seattle?). Out of curiosity, why do you continue to rent?

To expand on what luckyrobin said, an easier way to achieve the same effect is to put your statement in writing and just put a cc: at the bottom of the letter and insert your attorney's name on it. Doesn't matter if you have a regular attorney, if you odn't, just make up a name and put Esq. after the name.

Then send the letter certified mail to show you mean business.

I've used the name of an old boyfriend, who is an attorney, on various letters over the years with good results.
