FDIC

July 14th, 2008 at 03:28 am

Just a little service in these troubled times - I've put FDIC in list of Sites I Enjoy. Easy to search for, and feel free if you need to check your bank out.

Oh yes. Banks tend to "fail", or rather, get taken over by the FDIC on a Friday. Makes it much easier to control a bank run that way. Sleep tight.

Unless it's a really well-known national bank (think BofA), I always check at the FDIC site to make sure a bank really is insured. Anyone can SAY they're insured ... doesn't mean they are! (Kind of like the contractors who tell you they are insured & bonded ... Was it Ronald Reagan who said "trust but verify"?)

Ah, then you also want to check NCUA also, for credit unions.

We lost quite a few customers recently to a bank that was offering a higher APY on their CDs... come to find out, IndyMac was shut down on Friday. Crazy... Great tip though! Smile My employees quote FDIC coverage all day long, especially as of late.

    Have you bookmarked
Text is Weiss Ratings and Link is www.weissratings.com/HL_Bank.asp
Weiss Ratings? There's a WFSL branch up in Crown Hill on 15th Av NW, and another on 3rd by Columbia or Marion, methinks...

Weiss Ratings: So that's where Washington Federal got their data from for their poster on 3rd/Columbia. "Strongest Bank in America" it says. Thanks for clearing up the mystery.
