pot garden growing up

April 11th, 2009 at 05:20 am

Saving log - $5 tip box
Spending log - $8 lunch + $5 roast turkey for the weekend

Added up everything that I've saved through my tip box at work: $2504.

Work has been stressful lately; I'm off on Monday for a 3 day weekend. I have 204 hrs of PTO (personal time off)...over 5 weeks. Better start using it, dang nab it.

The pot garden is marching along...

I'm going to try something different, and plant carrots in a pot this weekend. Apparently, as long as the soil isn't too rich (turns the carrots hairy), they do well in pots. I have some purple carrot seeds and everything else.

Your title made me do a double-take, until I realized the pot you were writing about was a container (hehe).

Great results on your tip box. How long did it take you to save $2504?

I knew I learned a lot from these blogs, and you have just reinforced that knowledge. Yesterday I knew nothing about hairy purple carrots, and now I do! LOL!!
Actually, I don't. The carrots are actually purple? Or is it just the leaves that are that color?

Analise - 4 years. Its the slow track, dollar at a time saving. I go faster in other ways.

lizajane - you don't want the carrots hairy...I'm trying to avoid that. Smile The carrots themselves are purple, while the leaves are green. Here's something else that will blow your mind -
Text is carrots were first purple or yellow and Link is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrot#Eastern_carrots
carrots were first purple or yellow, orange ones were bred by the Dutch.

I instantly thought of the reefer too. But it looks like it will be healthy plants when they come up!

Okay, I knew what you were talking about because I've read your previous entries. But I think frugaltexan is right. Smile Glad to know it's growing well. We've had such a cold winter/spring.

I've got purple carrot seeds this year too. Smile But I have never grown good carrots. Mine are always gnarly, split rooted, tough, and bitter.

Good gravy, I haven't gotten this much blog action since I wrote "crotch" in a title. I guess if you want to increase the number of hits - you know what word to use. Smile
