using twitter

Saving log - $3 tip box
Spending log - $1 apple

I'm not into using Twitter for a lot of stuff - I'm a newbie on a cell phone and I can't afford unlimited text messaging - but I found that both the Seattle Police Department and Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) twitter. Turns out that my neighborhood is a hotbed of crime - one of our neighborhood banks (rhymes with yank of chimerica) was robbed several times last month.

At least the next time bus transit breaks down due to a shooting or snow, I'll be ready.

Time to monitor how quickly the minutes disappear and plan accordingly.

    Twitter baffles me. I can't imagine using it myself, I can't imagine why anyone would want to use it... not really. Because, technologically, it's not something that can't be implemented into any other type of blogs? In fact, I remember seeing a Live Journal app for the Palm from back in the day that could have done basically the same thing....

    And then, once in a while, you find oddly amusing tweets.... Big Grin So, I guess people are what makes Twitter interesting, not Twitter itself? Just thinking out loud anyways.

    I signed up for twitter back when it was taking off, and haven't really used it since. It's just too much of a time waster. You can add twitter widgets to your blog or even facebook, so it can serve as a quick update. Also turns out for all the talk of how quick they are growing (thanks Oprah) most people, something like 80% of all new users, abandon it within the 1st week of using it.

    BA/milehighgal - I'm not using Twitter for the people, and I don't plan to send "tweets" (how cutesy is that, ick) myself. Heck I could ask "What are you doing?" to anyone walking down the street and probably get a better answer Big Grin.

    I'm using it more for situations like "why are the buses all stalled downtown?" I'm treating it like CB radio back in the day. Big Grin

    i did exactly what milehighgal said - abandoned it within the first week. i joined it before anyone i knew, knew what it was - maybe that's why i thought it was crap, because no one i knew was on there. but i hate having so many things to log onto. i only use facebook and saving advice. i have other blogs and a myspace account, and a twitter account obviously, but they dont get logged into that often.

    The only thing I use twitter for is the twitterfeeds for my blogs. I have made a few "tweets" by signing in online, and am following a few people, but I don't even remember the last time I actually signed on and read anything.
