another fallout of the recession

Saving log - $4 tip box
Spending log - $5 apple, blue cheese
Found money - $0.01 (floor of Metro bus, in aisle) + $0.25 (in gravel, 3 doors from my house)

With the recession, it seems like more and more friends are getting caught by red light cameras, parking enforcement, jaywalking even. And the probability that I will be audited by the IRS has increased a goodly amount (1:130, now 1:90).

Didn't think about it before, but its not a surprise - tax revenues of all types are down, yet the need remains. The obvious choice is to wait until you screw up. And with the red light camera the process is automated.

Currently, running a red light is over $120. You can kind of talk them down to $70. That's a lot of coupons! Just be careful out there.

    lots of speed cameras around my state in aus. too, but thats because there's been a lot of deaths over the past few years, they are really cracking down.

    Yes getting a stupidity ticket is very painful these days. As I get older I get more patient and my need for speed decreases.

    I just read parking with wheels on the curb is a $50 fine. People were complaining and officials said "we've always ticketed curb parking." Yeah, right! Good to know. Our sidewalks are more "driveway style" and our streets are very narrow so of course everyone parks a bit on the sidewalk. I certainly do in our neighborhood. Now I have to remember not to. !

    I just recieved a red light ticket in the mail yesterday. My fine is $75.00.

    That is a well-documented phenomenon. When state revenue is down, law enforcement starts writing more traffic tickets. Not fair. I read a news article a while back about state troopers being denied a raise, so they told the legislature they would stop writing tickets. They got their raise. The state can't do without the money now. It's not fair, but what can you do?

    I got one of those camera speeding tickets where I live. It was later dismissed because the van was parked very close to the speed limit change on the interstate. I don't care what anyone says, those things should not exist! They should not take the place of human police officers.
