t-bills

October 10th, 2013 at 05:57 am

I haven't invested in 4 week t-bills in many years, ever since 2008. Why invest at 0%? But I have followed them, if nothing else to show that I'd do a better job finding money on the sidewalk. I looked at the 4 week t-bills today, and the Tuesday auction yielded .350%. Quite a jump from 0.

To play along, here: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/RI/OFBills

Looks like not everybody has faith that Congress will get it together and not raise the debt ceiling next week.

keep us updated. I've never looked into them and .035% is not enough for me to add them into my portfolio...but if they suddenly seem like a good opportunity then I want to know about it!

That's monthly. .335% in interest every month (where the catch is, it has to be maintained) translates to 4.2% yearly.

Its only a good opportunity for the vultures among us. I read it as the first symptom of a very bad issue.

I can't even remember the last time I owned a T-Bill (the only Treasuries I have now are TIPS and Series EE or I Savings Bonds), but if I had to guess I would say 2005, but I do check the rates from time to time. Looks like it may be time to start watching more closely. Yup - I'm a vulture.

P.S. - I found a nickel on the ground today and thought "baselle would be proud" as I swooped in to pick it up.
