Join me @ the Greenwood Garage Sale

April 6th, 2008 at 06:13 am

Thrifty Ray brought up a good point about a month ago that we havenít had any face to face events amongst the bloggers and readers on Saving Advice. Iíd like to rectify that by inviting anyone who is reading this blog, especially in the Seattle area, to join me at the Greenwood Garage Sale on Saturday, April 19th.

For more information about this little soiree:

Text is http://www.phinneycenter.org/events/garagesale.shtml and Link is
http://www.phinneycenter.org/events/garagesale.shtml

Usually over 100 families participate. In addition to the yard sales, the Phinney Neighborhood Association holds a flea market, the Greenwood Fire Dept holds a tour of their digs, and a number of kid entrepreneurs sell cookies and lemonade. Itís a 30 block square area so there will be some walking, but the #5 bus runs every 20-30 minutes.

Weíll meet at 9 am on the 19th at the little park by the Phinney Neighborhood Association on 67th and Phinney Avenue, North Seattle. The meeting site looks like this:

which is right next to the Phinney Neighborhood Association:

And coffee's 30 ft away. How's that for convenience!

I will provide paper maps of the event.

Wear comfortable shoes, bring along a bag, a bit of money if you are in a shopping mood, and/or a digital camera. Since this is a frugal event, bring a lunch if you like. There are a couple of grocery stores in the neighborhood.

If you are interested in joining me, please reply in the comments. Hope to put some faces to usernames!

Oh i wish i could be there! Sounds like a truly wonderful day. i love walking through sales like that and finding those treasures.

my moms friend just bought a belt at a good will story because she liked the pretty stones in the buckle. it was a dlooar but she found out yesteerday that the stone is some rare stone man made whose creater died in the 60's with out leaving the "recipe" for making the stone. it is beautiful but i can't remember the name.

I also love walking through the antique fairs and used thrift stores. you can find some truly amazing and cheap stuff that are just beautiful or easy to paint to be what you want.

Ok, it's wouldn't be very frugal, but I'd love to hop on a plane and get out that garage sale. We don't have anything like that around here, there would be tons of treasures to find I'm sure.

I'm interested! Wait a minute. I'm on the other coast. Darn!

As much as I'd love to participate . . . Texas to Seattle might be a bit of a drive. Smile
    Cool idea though!

Yeah I love the idea too. I'm a bit too far away and un-prepared to attend though. I hope some people can do it and you post how it all turns out.

I was prepped nine days ago to enter the Garage Sale, but we'll be out of the country that weekend. :-(

I used to live in Kirkland, so I'd love to go too, but I'm down in Texas now.

  8. SMB Says:

Well, drat, I might have come, though admittedly I feel a little shy about "outing" myself. Smile

  9. SMB Says:

    Oh, wait--it's the 19th! Yay!
