Thank you all

November 21st, 2006 at 04:04 am

I'm feeling a bit better today. I want to thank you all for your wonderful thoughts.

My cat's decline was gradual enough and he was a stoic. But by Friday he refused to eat anything, meowed like he was in severe pain and didn't put anything in the litter box, so off to the vet he went. His X-rays were a mess - a mass of abdominal cancer and a crystaline kidney. The vet couldn't find the other kidney.

I donated the rest of his unopened cat food - about 20 unopened cans and several unopened bags of Greenie cat treats - to the neighborhood PAWS cat adoption site. The folks at the site were very happy to see them, and it made me feel a lot better, too.

I plan to get another cat in about a year, but I'm a firm believer that cats appear karmically. They pick us. A cat will appear or a friend will introduce me to one. Until then, fond memories.

Savings log - 3$ to the tip box
Spending log - 862$ for the vet, X-ray, blood tests, euthanasia, and cremation. (My cat got a war souvenir - a pellet - when he had a run-in with a BB gun about 15 years ago, which we found out by an X-ray at that time. I had better see that BB in his ashes!)

What a nice thing to do in the middle of your grief!

I'm sure your cat is very happy the goodies were going to other kitties! Ouch on the vet bill though - but I consider that a family illness and totally in the necessary category!

    *hugs*

I am so very sorry about your loss! It was so very nice of you, in your time of grief, to donate the food. I hope your years of memories will ease your pain.

the love of a pet is unconditional and makes losing one that much harder. we had to put down our 14 yr old mastiff mix a year ago and my mom sister and i were there the whole time, to make sure he knew he was loved as he went to sleep. mom got him cremated, too, something i think more folks are starting to do.

Baselle, I'm so sorry. I missed your previous post. I had to put down my 12-year-old cat several months ago. It was very hard, but he had liver cancer and diabetes, and wasn't having a very good life. I still miss him, but I'm glad he isn't in pain anymore.

So sorry.........I've had to put 2 dogs to sleep in my life and the experiences still rank in my worst days catagory. Very hard decisions to make.

Here's hoping there is a great cat crossing your threshold soon! (I've got 2 crazy bad cats I would gladly share with you ....just let me know!!) Smile

So sorry to hear about your cat; i hadn't read the earlier post(s) on it.

Each time i have to put a cat to sleep, i vow it's going to be the last time, yet here i am on kitty #3. I felt very sad when #2 had to go, and 2 weeks later, i was at the animal shelter. If you are still upset, you will find that getting another animal sooner will go a long way to easing your sadness.

we had to let my kitty go when i was 16. she had been with us since i was 2 and she was about 4 weeks old. It was so hard and we could not afford the vet bills for more tests or cremation. we broguth Rosie home and buried her under her favorite rock next to the stream in our back yard. i think of her every spring when the daffodils i planted there come up. If we ever sell my moms house i am taking my daffodil bulbs too to plant at my home. making it Rosie's home too.

Yummy: I smile because my cat was a total food hound and a hunter that ate some of his kills. Some of my best stories were of him in search of alternate food sources. He would soooo not be happy that I gave his food away. Smile But I feel better.

Thank you all. I feel so much better. I grew up on a farm with plenty of farm cats, so I thought I was a bit immune to some of the grief.
