won a book

Saving log - $5 tip box
Spending log - $6 lunch + $20 beer, snack, dinner

The office had a drawing at our internal United Way campaign. I won the other Obama book, Dreams of My Father. Another co worker on my floor won The Audacity of Hope. We can have a little lending library in the lunch room, a place even more convenient than the library. Got a certificate for our floor's first place in the Halloween decorating contest...so actually we just won bragging rights. And brag we will.

Had a beer and dinner with DH, and I tried the snack that I've always wanted to try - fried crunchy pigs ears with mustard @ 4.99$. They were french-fried strips, no curve. Tasty, crunchy, like fries with third and a fourth dimension. DH had one, and had no more, so I had the rest. I felt like Mike Tyson, bearing down on these guys. I probably won't order them again, but it was great to try them and have nearly everything but the squeal.

You should try deep-fried hog jowls. I tried some when we passed through Sikeston, MO on our way to the Big Easy.

OMG, in my city you can buy whole pig's ear sandwiches. The ears have that snappy-tough white cartilage surrounded by sticky, gelatinous goop. They are served on white Wonder bread with yellow mustard and Tabasco sauce. The whole mess is gummy-gooey in the mouth, and the only way to get it down is to chew something you do not even want to be in contact with your teeth, much less tongue. My friend likes them and persuaded me to eat one. I tried not to insult his gastronomic culture. I persuaded him to try my homemade fermented tofu and ginkgo nut sauce. Ha! He liked the sauce.

Baselle, being that this happened 21 years ago, I'd say it was some sort of major life event for me to remember it so clearly. Big Grin I'll probably tell my grandchildren.
