genius, but I feel a little dirty

November 9th, 2013 at 05:12 am

For frugalistas only, because I just bet this entry title is a magnet for weird. Not that this isn't weird, but back out before you are disappointed.

Careful readers of this blog might know that I work for a large non-profit. This is special event money season - where we get a fair amount of cash and coin. After hoisting several bags of coins to the auditors I said, "hey if you see any interesting coins, I'll trade."

2 days later we found our first silver dime. Happy to swap a dime from my wallet for that dime.

Ooooh, I'm going to heck.

I have a silver quarter from...1946 I think in my desk at work. Found it counting money people paid me for participating in our water club (drinking water at work is on an old Air force base and really gross).

I have no idea whose envelope it came from, but is worth around $14 last time I checked. I also have a cpuple silver dimes and an old nickel from the 40's at home. Lucky find!

Nice! Coins seem to find you! Your magnetic personality?

Could be! But I've found that I am particularly good at noting shiny arcs whereever they seem to lurk. Right now I'm developing the pleasantries so that I'm not rude when I pick coins up in front of someone. My gray hair really helps that - its been years since anyone has said anything other than "lucky you!".

Intimate emergency fund is at $22.60 Since mid-July. And my precious metals portfolio is 10 silver dimes.

My late granny used to collect wheat pennies and bicentennial quarters. She worked at Butternut Thrift Store for years and would trade out money. She had me collecting Canadian money.
